Ashwagandha's adaptogenic properties help with a healthy stress response by lowering cortisol if too much is being produced. It balances the adrenal glands and helps restore adrenal fatigue. It's really good for relieving nervous exhaustion in people who are very energetically sensitive to their surroundings and feel wired but tired.
In Ayurvedic medicine, it is said that sleep issues are linked to the body lacking energy reserves, rather than having too much energy. The Ayurvedic strategy for sleep is not to sedate an already exhausted body, but to rejuvenate it and rebuild its reserves so that the body has the energy it needs to put itself to sleep.
